The prestigious Gold Medal for Progress Session paper was awarded to Dr. Raman Tanwar for his presentation at Jodhpur in 2014. Dr. Tanwar received this award during the Annual Meeting of the North Zone Chapter of the Urological Society of India at Srinagar on the 17th of September 2015. Dr. Tanwar presented a work on substitution of the Urethra with Saphenous Vein and how it could be a useful substitute to augment the urethra in the future. Many patients suffer from stricture disease for which is gold standard of treatment is Buccal Mucosal Graft Urethroplasty. Use of Buccal mucosa may carry risks of HPV infection and cancer in the substituted urethra. These problems can be circumvented with used of Saphenous Vein Graft. In India where use of tobacco products is quiet high many patients may not have a suitable buccal mucosa and hence the use of this graft may be quiet helpful.
