Pre-operative Instructions

Careful attention to the following pre oeprative instructions will help ensure your comfort and reduce the possibility of complications during and after the surgical procedure with Dr. Raman Tanwar:

  • Avoid any solid food 8 hours prior to the procedure. No water or liquids are allowed from 6 hours prior to the urological procedure. If you are undergoing a major surgery you will be given written or verbal clear instructions that are specific to that procedure.
  • If your surgery is planned for early morning we request you to have your last meal at 10pm in the night. Do not drink even water in the morning. If your surgery is planned for the afternoon you can have your early breakfast at 6 AM. Subsequently you are not allowed to even have water till after the surgery Dr. Tanwar advises you to start orally.
  • Take a Bath or shower in the morning of the surgery to minimize the chance of infection.
  • Clean your pubic hair and hair on the lower abdomen
  • If you develop a cold, sore throat, fever, etc. please notify your treating doctor and call the Surgery Center before coming in. Such conditions make it unsuitable to administer anesthesia
  • Wear loose and comfortable clothes that are easy to change from into the patient gown
  • Remove nailpolish and jwellery before coming to the centre
  • Inform about your allergies and diseases once your reach the surgical centre
  • confirm which medications have to be skipped before surgery. Medicines like oral hypoglycaemics, aspirin and other blood thinners may need to be stopped a few days prior. Continue essential medications like anti-epileptics, anti-hypertensives and thyroid medicines.
  • If you suspect that you are pregnant please notify your operating team as surgery and anesthesia drugs can cause irreversible harm to your fetus.
